About the ATNS ATS Bursary Programme

The ATS Bursary Programme is designed to develop the next generation of aviation professionals in South Africa. ATNS will host four bursary intakes during the financial year, ensuring continuous skills development within the aviation sector.

Successful bursars receive intensive theoretical and practical training, exposure to real-world aviation operations, and career-focused development within one of South Africa’s most critical transport sectors.

Training is conducted at the ATNS Aviation Training Academy, a world-class institution responsible for producing air traffic management professionals for South Africa and the broader region.


Available Bursary Streams

Applicants may be considered for one of the following Air Traffic Services bursar streams:

  1. Air Traffic Services Officer (ATSO)
  2. Aeronautical Information Management Officer (AIMO)
  3. Target Generating Officer (TGO)
  4. Airport Management Centre (AMC) Liaison Officer
  5. Simulator Support Officer (SSO)

Placement into a stream will be determined by ATNS operational requirements, assessments, and suitability.


Programme Description

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the ATNS ATS Bursary Programme 2026, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Hold a Matric (Grade 12) certificate
  • Passed Pure Mathematics
    • Minimum Level 4 (HG D / SG C or above)
  • Passed English
    • Minimum Level 4 (HG D / SG C or above)
  • Be a South African citizen with a valid ID document
  • Be unemployed South African youth
  • Be medically fit and willing to undergo ATNS medical assessments (especially for the ATSO stream)
  • Be willing to relocate anywhere in South Africa
  • Attach Grade 12 results to the application

Important Exclusion Criteria

  • Applicants who have previously participated in a similar ATNS programme will not be considered.
