Why Choose a Learnership in Engineering?
Engineering learnerships, particularly in mining, offer multiple benefits that extend beyond the training itself. Here are five compelling reasons to apply:
- Practical, Paid Training
Unlike traditional study paths, learnerships give you hands-on work experience while earning a stipend. - Nationally Recognised Qualification
Upon completion, learners graduate with an artisan qualification that opens doors across industries. - Employment Advantage
Employers prefer candidates with both theoretical knowledge and workplace exposure. A learnership provides both. - Growth Potential
Many artisans progress into supervisory and managerial roles. Some even branch into entrepreneurship, using their skills to build independent businesses. - Contribution to National Development
South Africa has a shortage of qualified artisans. By completing this learnership, you’ll contribute to closing that gap while securing your own future.
The Role of Host Communities
Valterra Platinum is deeply committed to uplifting the communities where it operates. First preference for this programme will be given to candidates from Mototolo and surrounding host communities. This ensures that local residents benefit directly from the company’s investment in training and employment.
By building local talent pipelines, Valterra Platinum strengthens its relationship with communities, driving shared value and sustainable development.
Tips for a Strong Application
To maximise your chances of success, keep the following in mind:
- Submit all documents: Missing even one requirement (like proof of residence) can disqualify your application.
- Check certification validity: Ensure your copies are certified within the past 3 months.
- Tailor your CV: Highlight technical subjects, practical exposure, or any volunteer work related to engineering.
- Apply early: Avoid last-minute technical issues by submitting your application before the closing date.
- Be professional: Use a formal email address and ensure all documents are neatly formatted.

The Engineering Learnership Programme 2026 is more than a training initiative. It is an investment in young South Africans who are ready to build, innovate, and transform the future of mining.
By joining Valterra Platinum, learners become part of a company that is redefining its future with bold ambitions, sustainable practices, and a strong focus on people.
